I got this rad book about birds from the library and saw the "Red Kite". A bird of prey, with great features (i.e. long flank feathers on the bottom end, fork tail, piercing eyes) made an impression in my heart. Hope you enjoy the picture as much as I do.

I got this rad book about birds from the library and saw the "Red Kite". A bird of prey, with great features (i.e. long flank feathers on the bottom end, fork tail, piercing eyes) made an impression in my heart. Hope you enjoy the picture as much as I do.

I thought you were just sharing a page from the book, as in, a "real" illustration!
This is one of those pieces that everyone will look at and say "Wow - you did this!?"
I'm sure I've mentioned this before but, I saw an interview with David Lynch as he was working on one of his paintings. The painting had a piece of meat nailed to the canvas and ants devouring it - all about the process of decay or whatever.
Anyways - he made it a point to talk about the differing levels of detail in a painting. Small brush strokes for the bird's face, larger strokes for the neck, and great big undefined strokes for the body / tail. Just like the size of the feathers change in the corresponding bird parts.
So this piece totally has that going on.
As with all works, I have criticisms, but I think I'm going to make you beg me to share them - plus I'm sure you already know.
Oh - I see you have some contourish lines!
Wow, this picture is amazing! It perfectly captures the birds balance of strength & beauty...I couldnt ask for anything more, right on!
Ben, A+ for the comment and Erica you rule. I decided to do a series of 5 birds, frame them all and display in stylish tree one day, where they can all live in peace and harmony..

The eyes are piercing and the wing feathers look so touchable. When I first saw the picture I thought it was from a book of prints!
I don't know how long it took to do this masterpiece, but it couldn't have been too long; whereas the other paintings seem to take forever. I think you have uncovered a hidden talent.
Can't wait to see the rest of the series!
