After this Bateleur was completed, I understand the importance of doing a series, with all the new techniques developed(scraping, rubbing, different tonal lines, etc) and the expanded timeline for ideas. This 7th installment is going to my grandfather, I owed him a picture for some time now (16-18 years?) and finally, I get to present him something special.
Also, tomorrow is a show (see below) so I can't wait to get down with some friends and new people.

The "Face Ass" term will come alive!!!
A quick sketch for practice, and this provoked the thought to do more self-portrait paintings! I'm going to start on a 8"x10" painting then work my way up the self-absorbed due to lack of model ladder and hopefully produce some mind blowing pieces. The moral of this post...At least I'm painting again.

Harris' Hawk
The Harris' Hawk took 4 days to complete, the longest being the inking and the watercolor touchups, and finally I'm done! Every bird, the process takes a little longer than the last, shouldn't I be getting quicker? Who cares, these birds are fun, and my technique improves a little during each intimate care session.

Prototype A-1
The ideas were pouring out after I finished this lil 4"x6" experiment and here are some more variations of the same subject matter.
Also I found this Robert Hardgrave video very inspirational. Here it is:

I love my Space and Stimuli.
Spartacus Rigsby, how I cherish our moments together, I know you need to bust-up some dawgs, then hit their girlz. But just make sure your ready to pose at 6am! Below, is a sample of one work area, where creation, sleep, play, and lovemaking are revolving.

Sharing is Caring
Spartacus Rigsby by the window this afternoon while I was thinking about things.
Some warming up..I like SR's head in the middle..
Erica and I went to visit Ben and Claire at the beach and this drawing came from that time. Ben is working on some art, and the house is from his front porch at 7:30am can't sleep in..

Playing with Whites
A Whites Treefrog, is the centerpiece for this experimental medium study. Recently I'm trying to take advantage of multiple materials and make them all work together, see where I can take my style.

Grow and Die
The Illustration Friday Site has a "Grow" topic going on and this brand new 4"x6" watercolor/ink hybrid is a good candidate. (Picture translation) "While reading and growing, you are also slowly approaching death." Nice.

IF: Extremes Submission
Abstract Expression and the feeling of extremes in a sexual nature might sum up this painting. I tried to capture the natural aggressive tension promoted with the act, coupled with the peaceful serene bliss afterwards (light whimsical blues). On a side note, this painting came from a breakup period, so yeah..

SR, Self, Xenotrope, and B-B-B TORRES!!!
Some sketches of Spartacus Rigsby sleeping after he hurt himself trying to get down from the attic, some bears, and myself in the mirror at 8:30am wondering when sleepy time will bitch slap me.
And Ben Torres, fooling around with Reason on the computer. Friends beware! I'm going to keep you busy when you visit, so I can draw your pretty faces!

Yeah! Rediscovered Self-made Comic Books!
I got a call from my mom today informing me that she found all my comic books that I made when I was 12-16! What a great find! Issues of Scottra, Pope "the inner fury", Nitro, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, G&E Power, Aliens with an Attitude, Ninja, Mr. Cavitee, Black Thunder, Mr. Tree, Pulsar, and Masterman. Some self made price guides, 2 old sketchbooks, and a rpg were included as well. It was cool running into hardcover, die-cut and aluminum foil covers again!

A Sensitive WIP
It's been awhile since I posted, so I wanted to display a piece that is getting some attention from me. This nude, caring woman has her flowers, but whats next? I want to fill the piece with beauty, and then give it away, like God...

Illustration Friday: Open!
The Illustration Friday site is accepting submissions for a topic named "Open" and this 4" x 6" piece I just finished fits the theme. Initially, the meaning behind the child reading on a turtle, what a second..do I have to explain this? If so, let me know, you might be the one on the turtle:) I know I am!

Isiah Thomas: America's lovable Sexist and Racist Asshole.
So I'm watching television at a hotel room in Tampa and this story came up about Isiah Thomas, Heres a quote..
So this is retarded, and America's new asshole deserves to have that label tied to him.Asked if he was bothered by a black man calling a black female “bitch,” Thomas said: “Not as much. I’m sorry to say, I do make a distinction.” A white male calling a black female a bitch is highly offensive,” Thomas said. “That would have violated my code of conduct.”
“Maybe I shouldn’t go there. … A white male calling a black female, that is wrong with me. I’m not taking that. I’m not accepting that. … That’s a problem for me.”

Fecal Face Submission
I found out about this contest when it ended. So out of desperation, I scrambled up an old sketchbook page and added the "Ridin it Out" theme, and sent the bitch. There are some really good submissions, who knows, maybe next time. But if your feeling loyal, vote for 7 in the comment portion. Long live 1995!!!

Threesome
So I buy a frame for a falcon and the drawing is just a little big, so tonight's goal was producing a picture to fit this new frame, and here it is. Some experimentation going on with the ink in the background, plus the ballpoint pen over watercolor was new as well. It was fun, like this threesome:)

Lanner Falcon
Man, I really like how this Lanner Falcon piece turned out. Even though this isn't the most complex series in the world, a lot of achievements were made in these simple bird studies.

Pre-inked Peregrine Falcon
The Peregrine Falcon is a fierce and very fast (up to 250 mph) hunter. This falcon catches birds in the air by flying high overhead and diving to take them by surprise. Cool, nature nerds!

Fetal Skull framed for LOVE
This was listed on ebay, it fetched about $48. There is boring explanation of why I still have it, but we can skip that and talk about the custom paint job on the frame! Notice the blackness!

Double-Barred Finch
Ahh, the doubled-barred finch, a northern Australian bird. I find the neutral colors and spotted wings attractive, plus the pose(s) make a decent composition for this series. Where are these bird studies gonna lead to?
